The Mairye story since 1956 when Khanmohamed Hudda bought the farm in South Central Uganda and started a rubber plantation.
The latex was processed on the farm and sold in sheet form to the Bata Shoe Company. Coffee was also grown in these years, and was mainly exported to the United States after processing.
After rubber and coffee prices fell in the late 1950s, Mairye changed to the cultivation of sugar and this remained the primary focus of the estate until the Hudda family were forced into exile by the Amin regime in the early 1970s.
In 1986, the Hudda family returned to Uganda to rebuild the estate, and after Ugandan market liberalisation in 1992, started growing roses for export. Since then the estate has gone from strength to strength, built on a base of sound farming experience and an intimate knowledge of the landscape in which it is situated.
Currently the company is growing Sweetheart, Super Sweetheart, Intermediates and diversifying in to Spray Roses.
In addition to our current product listing, we welcome clients to specify their own flowers, packaging and labeling requirements.
